Hello dear Community,

When we started The Why? a few years ago, we had no idea what it was going to turn in to. The space was born from our own individual needs for creative space and a desire to interact with a wider creative community. What started as our personal studio spaces in a weird room in an unusual building quickly evolved in to a fantastical modular space that we have been able to share with hundreds of people that practice a wider variety of mediums than we even knew existed.

We have been providing access to our weekly Open Studio and monthly Showcasecompletely free to the public for nearly three years now because we believe access to art exhibition and creation are a human right and anyone should be able to enjoy them. With that being said, there is a large cost associated with running the studio and providing these events, a cost that we have been covering for as long as the studio has existed.

As our community grows, the resources needed to serve that community grow as well, and we are nearing the ceiling in terms of what we can offer in terms of space, time, and resources. We created this page to give the community members a way to support what we do in order to grow alongside the community, while still keeping our community art events free and accessible.

We have many goals and big ideas when it comes to serving the community, with our eyes set on expanding Open Studio. Due to the nature of our studio, considering it is also our personal workspace and essentially our "office", we can't afford to offer Open Studio more than we currently do as we are working out of the studio every other day of the week. The solution to this is to expand The Why? in to another studio space where the primary focus is Open Studioand community engagement. This new space would be open much more frequently, increasing access and availability to the greater community as well as providing opportunities for additional event programming.
